Accommodation

If you have been booked a dorm room by us, the information about it is as follows: they are located in the North Quadrangle Residence Hall located at

105 South State Street

Ann Arbor, MI 48109

If you arrive on Monday-Friday between 9:00 am- 6:00 pm, there will be someone in the office to check you in.  If you arrive after this time, please use the phone next to the entrance.  There is someone on duty 24 hours a day, and they will come to let you in.

The rooms come with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet.   Guests receive linen packets upon arrival.  This includes a towel, washcloth, sheets, and a pillowcase.  They can exchange their used linens for a clean packet once a week.  Four single rooms share one hall bathroom.  The bathrooms are assigned by gender (e.g., four women share one bathroom).  There are no kitchen facilities available for Conference guests.

Parking

Parking permits can be purchased at North Quad upon arrival for the Palmer Commons Parking Structure.  The cost will be $10 a day payable only by credit card.

There is also residential street parking in Kerrytown, just north of the dorms.  Please pay close attention to the street signs as the parking alternates sides of the street depending on the day of the week.  Metered parking is not enforced on Sundays and Memorial Day.  There is also plenty of free parking west of 7th street, about a mile west of the dorms.

Visa Advice

If you will be reimbursed for more than 9 days of business activity, you need to get one of the following:

  1. a WB (Waiver for Business) if you are coming from a country that participates in the visa waiver program, or

  1. a B-1 visa if you are coming from a country that does NOT participate in the visa waiver program.

Both of these are business visas versus tourist visas.  You will need to be certain when stating the purpose of your travel that you give a business-type reason. If the immigration officer writes WT on the visa stamp, we will only be able to reimburse for 9 days or less of expenses.

Note: This information should be viewed as a guideline, not as authoritative  - final decisions are up to the US Customs and Borders Protection officers.

Letter of invitation: Please let us know if you need a letter of invitation.

Funding: If you receive GEAR funding you must buy a ticket with a US air carrier or provide documentation of why this is unreasonable.
