Class meets:

Prerequisites: Math 242 or 243 or equivalent.
Texts: Vector calculus (third edition)
by Susan Jane Colley
We will study 1.6 (ndimensinal geometry, linear maps,
determinants), 2.12.6 (differentiation of functions of several
variables) , 3.33.4 (vector fields; gradient, curl and divergence
operators), 4.14.3 (maxima and minima, Lagrange multipliers), 5.15.4
(double and triple integrals) [lightly], 5.5 (change of variables),
6.16.3 (line integrals), 7.17.4 (surface integrals; theorems of
Stokes and Gauss), 8.18.3 (differential forms, manifolds, generalized
Stokes's theorem).

Homework: Homework problems are to be assigned
once a week. They are due on Monday of the following week. No
late homework will be accepted.

Exams: There will be quizzes, a midterm and a
final. You have to pass the final to pass the course. All exams will be closed book.

subject to change). The final, according to the noncombined final
examination schedule is to take place on
Friday, Dec 16, 710pm in the regular classroom.

Grade: The formula for the course grade is roughly
as follows:

final exam = 40%

1 midterm = 30%

homework, quizzes, class participation etc = 30%
There will be NO CURVE
