Results of the 2019 Putnam Exam

Twenty-eight UI students participated in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, which was held December 7, 2019. The top local participant was Ruzhang Yang, who placed in the top 2% nationally and received an Honorable Mention. In addition to Ruzhang, eight other UI students placed on the "Top 500" list, a standard benchmark for excellence on the Putnam, correponding to roughly the top 10% of participants: Pavle Vuksanovic, Kieran Kaempen, Hongyi Chen, Maxwell Jong, Yipeng Yang, Erin Kim, Dun Ma, Samuel Guo.

The UI Putnam Team placed 18th out of some 500 participating colleges in the U.S. and Canada.

The Putnam Competition is the annual highlight of the UI Math Contest Program whose activities include training sessions, several local math contests with attractive prize purses, and opportunities to participate in prestigious national and international competitions. This year's program is being organized by A.J. Hildebrand and Timur Oikhberg.
