Inc. (3rd edition)

**Prerequisites:** Math 241 (formerly Math 243) or Math 242; MATH 347 or MATH 348, or equivalent.

**Lectures:** MWF 10:00-10:50, 243 Altgeld Hall

**Office hours:** Monday and Wednesday 5-6, or by appointment.

**Grading policy:** Comprehensive final exam: 35%;
Best two midterm scores (out of three tests): 40%;
Homework and quizzes: 25%

**Homework and quiz policy:** There will be 14 HW assignments.
Assignments # 1,3,5,...,13 will be collected and (randomly) selected problems
will be graded. Assignments # 2,4,...,14 will not be collected. Instead,
a 15 minutes quiz with two problems from that assignment will be given.

Only the best 10 (out of 14) scores will count towards the final score in the class. As a result HW extension or make-up quizzes will not be allowed.

Additional problem: Suppose that the sequence (x_{n}) converges to x.
Prove that the sequence (a_{n}) of its averages defined by
a_{n}=(1/n)(x_{1}+x_{2}+...+x_{n})
also converges to x. Give a counter-example showing that the converse is
not true.
