The Job Applicant Workgroup (JAW) is a seminar for people applying for
academic jobs. The purposes of the JAW are two-fold:
* To provide opportunities to peer-review your CV, teaching and research
statements, and cover letters; and
* To provide a forum for informal discussion about the job application
process.

Teaching Statements part 1
We will start working on teaching statements this week. Bring your CV.

Teaching Statements part 2
We will have feedback of our CV, then we will discuss our teaching statements this week. Bring your one-page-long teaching statement.

Application process.
Two postdocs will share their experiences with us. If there is time, we will get feedbacks on our CV's and teaching statements. Bring laptops, so we can work on changes.
- September 23 Panel Disscussion (organized by Karen Mortensen)
Marci Blocher will give information on procedures for having your letters of recommendation sent out, thesis defense and deposit rules and procedures, etc. There will also be a panel discussion on the job search process with Prof. McCarthy and several other faculty members.

Please bring your research statement.
- October 7 Research Statements
We will trade research statements with each other and give comments.
- October 14 Research Statements / Teaching Statements
Bring either your teaching statement or research statement (or both!). We'll get into pairs, trade statements and give feedback.
- October 21 Research Statements / Teaching Statements
Bring either your teaching statement or research statement (or both!). We'll get into pairs, trade statements and give feedback.
- October 28 Cover letters
Bring you cover letter. We'll get into pairs, trade statements and give feedback.
This might be our last meeting for a while. In the
future we could organize sessions to prepare for interviews and job talks,
but since most applications need to go out soon, we'll probably go on
hiatus.
