A sample standard deviation is along with sample mean one of the basic summary statistics for a sample of randomly generated objects (or any list of objects in general). The standard deviation value statistic for some property of a list of objects is stored under the key StdDev in the hash table returned by the function statistics.

The last line returns the standard deviation of the degrees of the 100 ideals in the sample $s$. Note that it is more meaningful to look at this value along with the mean value rather than as a standalone statistic.
